The Background
Reconnaissance Management S.A. was contracted by an NGO operating in Haiti who were experiencing frustrations with their selected security provider. The security provider was a small professional company however they struggled to provide adequate staff training in line with the NGO’s expectations. Cultural differences aggravated the situation and ultimately the variances in service delivery increased the security risk considerably.
With no industry standards present within the security industry in Haiti there is no compulsory requirement for training of personnel. This presents as a considerable security risk for organisations often evidenced in poor return on investment or very serious security incidents.
The Challenge
Reconnaissance was required to work with the security provider, on behalf of the client, to carry out an analysis on services provided. Initially the service provider was reluctant to engage on the project however as the project developed it became clear that all parties would benefit from a challenging, engaging and tailored training solution. With the security service being provided across Haiti it was clear from the outset that logistics and potential downtime may become an issue for the security provider.
The Result
Reconnaissance initially worked with the NGO to identify their exact operational needs. It became clear that the organisations own security policy needed updating and alignment with the operating environment. Once this was completed and communicated we worked extensively with security provider to analyse training needs throughout their organisation. Management training was developed and delivered to embed a more focused culture within the organisation. Communicating culture and vision to staff energised the workforce and a nationwide training programme was delivered internally by the security provider. To address logistical issues the company established training centres across the country for specific periods of time to ensure all staff were adequality trained. This training was further supported by a well-designed people recognition program. The end result satisfied the customers service needs while greatly reducing security risk. In addition the security provider increased its market presence and positioned itself as a well-trained and managed company within an industry without standards.
