The Background
A partnership between the owners of the new hotel, which is operated by Marriott Hotels, meant that Reconnaissance Management S.A. was closely involved in the physical security and security risk management from ground breaking to opening and operation. We now work extremely closely with Marriott and the owners in both practice areas.
The Challenge
The hotel and owners wanted to present a warm and welcoming front to guests and visitors yet also ensure that the safety and security of both guests and associates were in place.
The challenge presented by bringing one of the worlds most renowned hotel brands to Haiti and ensuring that the security challenges in Port-au-Prince were met was extremely unique one.
This consultancy was ongoing through the build phase of the hotel and involved close liaison with the project team and Marriott task force sent in to establish hotel operations. Marriott have long established security and loss prevention processes and country risk assessments and we worked closely with the Regional Director of Loss Prevention from Marriott to establish security protocols, correct deterrents and outline responsibilities that are balanced between their needs, the needs of the owner and our own experience in Haiti.
The Result
Using a layering system of contracted security agents, physical deterrents and Marriott’s in-house Loss Prevention team we have built a strong working partnership with Marriott that provides and welcoming yet secure environment for guest and associates.
The hotel General Manager is included in our security briefings to ensure that escalation measures are in place if required and we work extremely closely with her and her team during periods of civil unrest and extreme weather events that may impact Port-au-Prince and the country as a whole.
